Yes.

It's a delivery service, not a dating service.

as a server, i can attest to this. it's unwritten law. if you break it, you will (usually, depending on the people involved) pay.

Servers are usually really nice to me. Being veg used to be much more irritating at restaurants because they would always put meat in whatever I ordered. I've even had chicken come in dishes that are supposed to be vegetarian.

But I've always tried to be understanding about it. (Kitchen staff don't really pay attention to the very large, bold, red, no meat sign when cooking.) I've never been one to get angry with the server because it's really not their fault. It's always benefited me. Like getting free dessert. =)

My friends and I tip based on refills. (we are over-tippers anyway so it makes it more justifiable haha) If they bring us 0-1 they only get the standard 15-20%. The more refills we get, the more money they get.

The only thing I have problems with when it comes to servers is that I always ask for my drinks without ice. And 80% of the time I have to ask them again when the drink comes back with ice (and I am always nice, because I understand, its habit) and then 50% of them act like I have asked them go bring me the Empire State Building in my glass. I don't get it.

it's not hard to bring a drink without ice. of all the mistakes i've made as a server, i've never done that.

Yeah, refills are always a good way to go. If I have to track down my waiter/waitress then I start going down from 15% depending on how long it takes them, how nice they are, and how busy the restaurant is.

And I always make sure to check the amount of the tip in relation to the job they do. If it's an expensive restaurant and they did a crappy job I'm not giving them $20. On the flip side, if my bill is really low and they did a nice job I'll leave a couple bucks instead of %15 when that comes to only a dollar or so.

I'm not really sure what to give the pizza guy, or my hairdresser though.

And I really wasn't sure what to give the guy who did my piercing.

one thing you should never go by on tipping is how long it takes the server to do things. unless you've been a server before, you have no idea the amount of things we've got going on at once. it's amazing things don't take longer with all the stuff we've got going on. i mean, you may have somewhat of an idea of how busy we are based on how busy the restaurant is, but you can't see the things we've got to deal with in the back like trying to find stuff we're out of, picking up slack for those who aren't doing their job (at olive garden, there's supposed to be a bread maker and salad maker, but when there's not, the servers have to make both and it really slows us down) or waiting on other servers to get done using the drink station. these are just some common examples...the list is endless.

you're right...which is why they bring you your stuff in 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes.

I think there is a reasonable amount of time to do things within, but I have definitely been left waiting forever at places where there is no conceivable reason as to why it should take so long.

I have a waitress just disappear with no one to cover her tables (i am guessing, because no one ever came to ours) when there were only 2 other customers there. We waited 40 minutes after we got our food to get more drinks, and ended up having to go to the counter to get them. Lame and inexcusable.

Exactly. I mean, I understand I'm not the only one there. But stuff like that is when I start knocking money off the tip. They're not working so I'm not paying them.

Lets say... hypothetically, of course... if one ends up driving to Cornerstone and happens to drive through your neck of the woods, might one be available to be served at ye olde olive garden de la rizzo? And perhaps jack a piece of floor to sleep on so one wont have to drive all 17 hours straight to Cornerstone? And would one's chances of you saying yes increase if the one is me?
