If I had to guess (and I am guessing because I haven't looked into this at all) it's that homosexuality falls under the moral laws. However, I don't know how Leviticus is set up. I don't know if it breaks them up into sections (Ceremonial, civil, and moral) or if it skips around and this matter is more open to interpenetration.

Hey Izzi... I'm thinking you might want to edit the last word of your post there...

I am a little bit confused on how its broken up as well, although I do know that as a Christian (Gentile) who was living among Jewish believers, there were lots of rules that they followed but didn't expect me to, and the ones that they did expect me to and those are summarized in Acts: [1] no sexual immorality (as defined by Paul, including homosexuality among other things) [2] no drinking blood [3] no sacrificing to idols and [4] no eating food sacrificed to idols. They weren't crazy about my tattoo, but I don't think they thought worse of me for it... I think it was just a generally more visually conservative thing since a lot of the girls there wear super high necklines and long skirts.

After reading through this completely it makes me even more confused...

Personally, to me it isn't a sin and I can't understand it being one. Even with all the "biblical" proof it just doesn't seem physically accurate. And comparing it to stealing is completely wrong.....

Re: Gay Marriage Discussion

Postby ThePageStaysBlank » Sun Nov 04, 2012 2:04 am

This is kind of half off topic...

There's this radio ad that plays on one of the radio stations that's anti gay marriage (Minnesota will be voting on it this election) and it's just really dumb. The ad starts out by saying that if gay marriage passes straight marriages will be threatened, jobs will be lost (?), and some other random claims that they don't elaborate on. Then they claim that the biggest threat gay marriage poses is to our children. Why? Because they will be taught in school that homosexuality is okay.

Yeah, that's the big threat of gay marriage--kids will be taught that homosexuality isn't a reason to hate someone. How dare they. I mean, it's not as if schools aren't already starting to do this, regardless of the marriage amendment.

And how legalizing gay marriage will mean lost jobs for straight people I also don't understand. At this point I don't care if people are against gay relationships for religious reasons. They have their right to feel and think that way. But I'm tired of people trying to say that Christianity is the reason to vote against gay marriage. America is largely Christian, yes, but there's a reason we have freedom of religion.

Normally I don't care for stuff like the image below, but this one I actually like. Number eight applies to what I mentioned above.

straight marriages will be threatened
How? Once we legalize gay marriage, straight marriage will become illegal? No. No it wont. Straight Marriage will not be threatened in any way whatsoever.

jobs will be lost
This deserves some hefty elaboration as it makes absolute zero percent sense.

other random claims that they don't elaborate on
Figures. There are no legitimate claims because they're pulling reasons out their butts (and their ancient texts).

the biggest threat gay marriage poses is to our children because they will be taught in school that homosexuality is okay
Right. Because kids don't already think homosexuality is okay? If you ask any young child (who hasn't yet been indoctrinated with their parents' agenda [lol listen to me be all fox news-like]) what they think of gay marriage and they will think nothing of it.

legalizing gay marriage will mean lost jobs for straight people
You mean like how gay individuals are being denied jobs because they're gay? Unlikely. In fact, completely improbable.

Christianity is the reason to vote against gay marriage.
This is literally the only reason. There is no other legitimate reason.

America is largely Christian
Yes, but we are not a "Christian nation." We are a nation of...

freedom of religion.

Hey, I'm all on your side. I was trying to explain to some friends of mine why I was voting No on the amendment (in favor of gay marriage). It's not about religion in my mind. It's voting for freedom.

I enjoyed the back and forth style.

Really though, old members have probably noticed that I've changed a lot. I'm sure someone could dredge up some rather embarrassing old posts. Oh how parents influence how you think when you're a teenager.

Re: Gay Marriage Discussion

My take.

I believe marriage should always and ONLY be between a man & woman. As Leviticus 18:22 says, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." and as Leviticus 20:13 says, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own hands."
The book of Leviticus is full of rules and regulations, and while some appeal to the specific culture back in the day, some of them just aren't as stressed here in America (or nowadays), because we live in a different time/culture. However, there are those that are completely universal and would work in any culture. As it says in Genesis 2:24, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." It was God's purpose from the beginning of time itself that marriage should be between male and female, and it still stands today.
But, as Christians, we are supposed to love one another, and not judge because of one's sin, while we ourselves have (usually different) sin. To God all sin is the same, but in our world it's hard to wrap our minds around that. I'm not going to judge any of you or say "You're a bad Christian because of [so and so]", but this is my take and I'm entitled to that, just as you are to your own opinion.
That's all I have to say.
