Baroness and Kyuss are totally not post-metal. Baroness is prog, Kyuss is stoner. Pelican and Isis are good, though. Neurosis is another solid choice.

ben your elitist is showing again. i know those two aren't technically post-metal, but for someone just diving into the genre, they serve as fine starting points.

When does it not?

Pelican is probably the best place to start, especially their more recent stuff. Red Sparowes is good too, if you're already into post-rock. Jakob is also amazing, though they're nowhere near as heavy as the rest of the bands listed so far (really, more post-rock than post-metal, but my vocabulary is poor I love them).

no, but as soon as you point out someone's mistakes in labeling genres, what does it make you sound like?

Kyuss is cool even if they aren't post-metal.

Also Slayer is totally post-metal Andrew. For real.

Seriously, does anyone know any good Irish punk and folk bands besides Flogging Molly, Flatfoot 56 and Dropkick Murphys?

Srsly. Slayer is the best post-metal. You should download Reign in Blood right now.
